Ohio State’s College Football Playoff hopes return after USC’s loss to Utah in Pac-12 title game, media says

Ohio State returned to the College Football Playoff dominant conversation following Utah’s win over USC in Friday night’s Pac-12 Championship Game, altering the Buckeyes’ outlook heading into this weekend’s final selection committee rankings. The Trojans were ranked No. 4 and were in a “win and we’re in” scenario against the Utes, but faltered down the stretch, leading to a likely free-fall out of the top four.

Media members immediately brought up Ohio State’s shot at making the final four early in the second half as the Trojans’ playoff hopes began to unravel. Heisman frontrunner Caleb Williams was hobbled against a feisty Utah front and by the time the clock struck midnight, Ohio State’s disappointing season after its loss to Michigan last week took a turn in the opposite direction.

Now, the Buckeyes are projected to play expected top seed Georgia in the first round of the playoff pending Saturday’s conference championship results. That could potentially set up a rematch with the Wolverines if the Buckeyes are able to get past the defending national champions.
